Daniel P. Colombo, 85, died after a short illness, on Tuesday, May 5th. Beloved husband of Carol during 61 years of marriage, father of James of Plano, TX and Daniel and wife Estela of Toronto Ontario, Canada, and grandfather to MaryClare, Patrick, Bernadette and Josephine of Plano and Valeria and Daniel of Toronto.
Dan and his three brothers, Charles, Kenneth and Alan were born and raised in Detroit by Joan and Charles F. Colombo, both European immigrants. He joined the Navy in 1951 and saw the world. He and Carol settled in Indianapolis in 1954 where he was employed by Baldwin and Lyons for over 30 years. His retirement was spent in happy pursuits with many, many friends. He loved to sing and was an excellent dancer. He enjoyed visits to and from his treasured extended family and friends from Michigan, Texas, Toronto, and Iowa. He loved to play bridge, golf, and tend to his beautiful garden at the Indianapolis family home where he and Carol lived for 44 years.
Dan’s sunny personality led him to spontaneously create friendships with everyone he encountered, in his profession, his travels, and even on the street with strangers. He valued these enduring friendships. And his enthusiasm for life continued through his 61st wedding anniversary celebrated on April 24, 2015. He was a happy man. He will be missed by all.
A remembrance gathering celebrating Dan’s life will be scheduled during the summer.
